The Understorey House celebrates the rich, nostalgic territory beneath a Queenslander. This renovation moved the existing weatherboard house to bring in more northern light below.
We reinstated recycled hardwood posts in their original locations. Inverted king post trusses were introduced to create larger spaces. Steps in the floor loosely define the sitting, dining room and kitchen. These steps also open the rooms to the garden, a central part of the clients’ wellbeing.
Understorey House was featured in GA Houses 203. See more residential projects on our project index, or get in touch to discuss your own renovation
